i think this painting is mostly inspired by the japanese's style...you know..like bamboo..something like that... i love to paint like that..but unfortunately i coudn't ...
ok since this is water colour, there's a few things I think you could afford to do to make this read a little better.
you need to choose a focal point. the intensity of the waves in the water and the bamboo is too close together. and since it's water colour there's really no need for that. I like the way you handled the sky, a few simple strokes. I think if you had done something simular with the sea this would read better. right now the brush strokes in the water is a little too dominant and it obscured the stokes of the plants. by just dilluting the paint a little more, maybe smoothing out the lines a little on the water, the pattern won't become so dominant. it would add to the calm feeling and help the plants read more
I do really like the feel of it. if I cover up the lower plant and water, and just look at the sky and the upper plant... that's perfect I'd just soften the water a litte (at least where the plant overlaps the water) and then this should be a really really nice piece. easy fix. got to love watercolours
I like this watercolor. It's overall layout is nice, the choice of color was good and I like the oriental feel your painting has. It's weak points are the fact that it's busy and that there is no real focal point. If there was more negative space and a greater tonal difference between the tree and the water behind it, it would be even better.
